CHICKEN LITTLE SAID

By admin • October 1st, 2008

You know what Chicken Little said, “The sky is falling”. Has the bad news really come home to roost this time?

Our economy started out based on agriculture, then went to manufacturing, then to the information age, and now to consumerism. The challenge is that if consumer spending is receding, by definition, this is a recession. Yes, there is the “R” word that no one wants to utter, but I said it anyway.

What does this have to do with business and people making a living? It becomes hard when the media is emphasizing the failure of the free market place. The news is staggering with the failure of big financial institutions. The government wants to spend gargantuan amounts of taxpayer monies to “bail out the economy”.

What’s going on here?

The media talks about how jobs are scarce.

The media talks about how businesses are failing.

The media talks about how the economy is in a crisis.

Everything is negative (remember that BAD news sells). It’s hurricane, or accidents, or bad economy, or killing, or teenage pregnancy, and on and on.

The question then becomes, “Who controls your thoughts?”

Is it you, or is it the media?

It seems it is the media, because they “MADE” you think like Chicken Little.

I have a suggestion. Turn off the TV, and ask yourself what is real. Try looking outside. The sky is blue, the trees are green, the sun is out, and it is a pleasant day. I much prefer that reality to doom and gloom.

Ask yourself what do you really want in your life? If you get that one thing in your life, what are you going to do differently? How about freedom – freedom from want, freedom from fear, freedom to do what you want and to be who you want? You want people to love, and who love you, and care, and to live a fulfilling life.

Ask yourself, what is your true passion? Consider that passions change, and keep this in mind when you answer. What is it you really want to do?

Probably to have the means and time to spend with your loved ones, give back to the community, travel, and enjoy life.

How do you get the time?

How do you pursue the passion?

How do you fulfill your dreams if you are filled with fear and false advice from the media?

The truth is, you do have a choice. You can choose to keep listening to doom and gloom or you can take action to achieve your personal success and happiness. Ask yourself what success, both in life and business, personally means to you, and write it down.

Perhaps you say, that if Lehman Brothers failed, what are my chances of succeeding?

They failed because they got greedy and took stupid risks without looking at the paltry rewards that they might achieve. They were just plain lazy, greedy and dumb. They were like an adolescent – they had the body of an adult, but the brains of a child, and they came crying to Mommy when things went bad, hoping they would get bailed out

How do you make sure your business is based on strong fundamentals and will be profitable and carry on successfully?

The basics of business are basic to the success of any business, small, medium, or large, internet based, traditional storefront, service or product. The fundamentals of business are fundamental to the success of any business.

The journey to a business starts with an idea. The next step is to validate the market for your proposed business. Once validated, everything else falls into place. For further information on this process, see www.businessproadvisor.com.
